How I Became a Space Ninja Fisherman in Warframe (2026 Edition)

I never expected that my favorite activity in a game about robot space ninjas would be standing on a beach with a spear, whispering sweet nothings to a glowing fish. Yet here I am in 2026, still playing Warframe, still fishing. What started as a quirky side activity in the Plains of Eidolon has become a full-blown obsession across Fortuna, the Orb Vallis, and the Cambion Drift. If you want standing, materials, and the occasional weird fish organ to build a weapon, you need to learn to fish. So grab your spear, Tenno—we're going angling.

Before You Get Started

Fishing in Warframe isn't just one system. Each open-world area has its own rules, spears, baits, and fish. Getting good in one place doesn't automatically make you a master everywhere else. The general loop is simple: buy a fishing spear from the local vendor, grab some bait, equip the spear from your gear menu, and start chucking bait into whatever liquid—or goo—the fish call home. Just remember that equipping your spear disables normal combat, so clear out any Grineer, Corpus, or Infested party crashers before you start.

Once you're in fishing mode, your Warframe abilities are replaced by baits. Throwing bait into the water—or the exocrine, or whatever suspicious puddle you find—encourages fish to show up. Always aim for the biggest fish you can see. Bigger fish give more standing and materials, and they're usually easier to hit. Some rare fish only come in one size, but if you have a choice, go big or go home.

Location, time, and weather are the big three when it comes to what fish appear. Some fish only show up in lakes, some in ponds, some in rivers, and some in caves. Some only appear at night on the Plains of Eidolon, while others only show up during blizzards on Venus. For rare fish, you might also need bait, a hot spot, or both. Hot spots look like rippling water on the Plains or shimmering fumes in the Orb Vallis and Cambion Drift. Patience is key, but bait and hot spots speed things up.

Fishing on the Plains of Eidolon

The Plains of Eidolon is where my fishing addiction began. Head to Fisher Hai-Luk and buy the three spears: Lanzo, Tulok, and Peram. Each spear deals more damage to certain fish types. Use the right spear and you'll catch a fish in one or two hits. Use the wrong one and you'll be poking a fish four times while it swims away laughing at you. Lanzo is best for smooth-skinned fish, so start there.

Pick up Luminous Dye and Peppered Bait too. Luminous Dye makes fish glow underwater, which is basically cheating in the best way. Peppered Bait increases the number of common fish. Good fishing spots include the lakes directly north and west of the gate to Cetus—large beaches, fewer enemies, and plenty of fish.

Ranking up with the Ostron is tied to fishing. You'll need 60 fish scales, which come from cutting up any fish. But Murkray Livers and Cuthol Tendrils require specialized baits locked behind higher Ostron ranks. Don't try to catch those right away unless you enjoy pain.

Fishing on the Orb Vallis

Fortuna makes fishing a bit easier. There's only one spear for Servofish, and it's a shock spear from The Business. This spear works differently: once you hit a fish, you play a short mini-game. Hit the throw button again when the gauge is in the middle to send a shock that stuns the fish. Later, upgrade to the Stunna Fishing Spear, which releases an EMP wave on a successful catch and stuns nearby Servofish. That's how you catch a whole school at once.

Luminous Dye still works here. For bait, Broad-Spectrum Bait improves your odds for Sapcaddies, Tinks, and Brickies. Narrow-Spectrum Bait helps with Recasteres or Eye-Eyes, depending on the weather. Everything else needs a specialized bait named after the species. Solaris United doesn't need fish parts for standing, but you'll need them for K-Drives, Kitguns, and other weapons.

Fishing on the Cambion Drift

Deimos is where fishing gets weird—and I mean that affectionately. You'll need the Spari Fishing Spear to pierce the exocrine and catch fish beneath the goo. Upgrade to the Ebisu Spear so missed throws don't scare fish away. Fishing spots can be lakes, rivers, ponds, or caves. Some fish are surface-only, some are underground-only. Some appear during the Fass cycle, others during Vome. Check the community database before you head out.

Bait here is refreshingly simple. Fass Residue improves your chances for Fass-spawning fish, and Vome Residue does the same for Vome-spawning fish. Processed versions let you catch rarer fish. Deimos fish are used for Daughter Tokens, standing, Deimos weapons, the Xaku Warframe, and Antigens for Vulpaphyla companions.

Fishing in Warframe is still one of the strangest, most relaxing, and occasionally infuriating things I do in a video game.
